Welcome to 8th Grade Math!!!Hey everyone! Welcome to the coolest year you're about to have in math. I will be teaching 8th grade mathematics as well as Algebra 1 for those students who are eligible to earn that high school credit. I look forward to making this a memorable year for you and your child here at RISE Prep. I will be following the Georgia Standards of Excellence for both mathematics courses in preparation for their respective Georgia Milestones Assessments. Meet the TeacherDeMarkius Lamar is a native of Atlanta, Georgia. He attended Atlanta Public Schools, graduating from Benjamin E. Mays high in 2008. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from Valdosta State University in middle grades education, with a primary focus on mathematics and a secondary focus on social science. He also has a Master’s degree in middle grades math and science. Mr. Lamar began his teaching career in 2012 in Valdosta, Georgia, where he served as an 8th grade math teacher, a 6th - 8th grade math remediation teacher, an AVID elective teacher and coordinator, a boys basketball coach, and head boys and girls track and field coach. Mr. Lamar is the now the coach of the boys basketball team and the track and field team here at RISE Prep. Mr. Lamar served 2 years on the leadership team for his school and was also named Teacher of the Year for the 2016-2017 school year. Mr. Lamar has a son and is ready to give back to the city that gave so much to him!

Curriculum
What Will You Learn?Students in both classes will be following the Georgia Standards of Excellence, a curriculum set forth by the Georgia Department of Education. They will also be AVID strategies that will assist with note taking abilities, organization, test taking skills, and many more.
